I was granted asylum in another country, but an old Red Notice from my home country just resurfaced — what now?

Asylum status and an INTERPOL notice exist in two separate systems, and granting one doesn’t automatically trigger deletion of the other. It’s common for someone to build a new life for years, then discover — through a bank, a visa application, or a routine border check in a third country — that the original notice never left the system.

This is actually one of the stronger positions for removal: a grant of asylum or refugee status is treated as meaningful evidence that the underlying prosecution carries a persecution risk, which speaks directly to the same grounds used in a Red Notice removal filing. The practical risk in the meantime is travel outside your country of asylum — many people assume their status protects them everywhere, and it doesn’t. Get the notice addressed formally rather than relying on your asylum papers alone at a border.
